Omar Muhammad has been selected by the Charleston Post and Courier as one of this year’s “12 Black Leaders to Know in South Carolina.” Post and Courier reporter Adam Parker explains that to produce this list “The newspaper reaches out to numerous sources, Black and White, seeking their input and recommendations. We strive to assemble a group of 12 who come from different parts of the state and from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds. We want to draw attention to many forms of leadership, some public and political, some quietly influential.” Omar is highlighted for his long-term engagement in environmental science and community-based work, including his work of environmental justice advocacy with LAMC in North Charleston.
