Economic Development

LAMC’s economic development initiatives spur economic viability for our target areas.

Spur economic viability for our LAMC target areas through successful implementation of the following:

  • Documentation of the history of the LAMC communities to spark tour related business opportunities
  • Expand the availability of healthy foods to LAMC communities
  • Implementation of a micro-loan program for African American businesses and entrepreneurs in LAMC communities

COVID-19 Small Business Recovery Loan (Economic Development)

LAMC is partnering with the Charleston LDC to offer loans for small businesses, located in LAMC communities, owned by people of color, and employing community members. These low-interest loans aim to combat the effects of COVID-19 on laborers and the business community in LAMC communities.

Hear Our Voices

Hear our Voices in an ongoing project documenting and celebrating the history of the LAMC communities to promote sustainable tourism. In partnership with local universities, Hear our Voices is collecting and preserving local history, and preparing audio/visual materials for the public.

Community Center Mini-Grants

LAMC awards annual grants to support community-based improvement projects. This funding is available to community centers in Accabee, Chicora/Cherokee, Liberty Hills, and Union Heights.
